Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Saudi Arabia has taken another major step toward its clean energy transition, with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) announcing the launch of tenders for 5.3 gigawatts (GW) of new solar and wind capacity. The initiative falls under Round 7 of Saudi Arabia's National Renewable Energy Program (NREP), marking continued progress toward Saudi Arabia's goal of installing up to 130 GW of renewable capacity by 2030.

The move reinforces Saudi Arabia's ambition to emerge as a global leader in renewable energy by leveraging its vast solar and wind resources. To date, SPPC has floated tenders exceeding 43 GW of capacity, of which more than 38 GW have already secured power purchase agreements (PPAs). The latest round highlights ongoing momentum in expanding clean power generation to support Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 and its net-zero emissions target for 2060.

National energy companies continue to play a defining role in this transformation. A consortium comprising ACWA Power, Saudi Aramco Power Company (SAPCO), and Water and Electricity Holding Company (Badeel) -- a subsidiary of the Public Investment Fund (PIF) -- recently signed PPAs with SPPC to develop seven new solar and wind projects totaling 15 GW.

The initiative reflects the PIF's strategic objective to deliver 70% of Saudi Arabia's renewable energy target by 2030. By mobilizing domestic expertise, capital and technology, Saudi Arabia is fast-tracking its transition toward a low-carbon economy -- positioning itself at the forefront of global renewable energy development while driving sustainable growth across the region.
